I’m not a dead link or a mom blog!

30 Mar

My mind and emotions have been swimming in the deep end lately. I can’t believe I haven’t posted in 2 weeks. That’s the longest I’ve ever gone without spilling my guts for the world to read.

I think it’s time for some spillage, but I can’t seem to get my thoughts in order. Tomorrow, I will have a good post. I promise. I’m not a dead link. And I’m not a mom blog (even though I can hardly keep my mind of my precious little baby girl, June). Here’s what happened in the past 2 weeks:

  1. We felt June kick on the outside of my tummy for the first time – magical.
  2. We had house guests from Missouri.
  3. We are welcoming Joshua White into our home tonight. This will be our first “face-to-face” with anyone from the internets.
  4. My face has gotten fatter – I’m fairly sure of this even though my friends swear it’s not true.
  5. French fries make my feet swell up, but I can’t seem to stay away from them.
  6. I started watching the HBO series, Big Love. It’s just wrong.
  7. We had a snow storm and 2 snow days.
  8. God taught me some lessons.
  9. I miss my blog friends.

Resume Writing Tips

12 Mar

The economy sucks…and I can’t do anything about it.

BUT –

I have a knack for writing, editing and formatting resumes for my friends, family, and even former co-workers. If you need some help with your resume, I really want to help you. Here’s some quick tips, but feel free to leave a comment and I’ll email you if you need additional help:

  • Customize your email for the job you are applying for. Each job requirement is different – so should your resume!
  • Keep it to one page if at all possible.
  • Keep it clean and SPELL CHECK!!!!
  • Focus on your skills and strengths – not your daily tasks and duties.
  • You are marketing yourself so be creative and make your experience jump off of the page.
  • Reach out to placement agencies and head hunters. They have trusted relationships with tons of companies. Many companies won’t hire anyone unless it’s through a placement agency or head hunter.
  • Convert your resume to PDF before sending. MS Word formatting doesn’t always “keep”.
  • For examples, templates and more tips, visit Resume Resource.

In addition to helping with your resume, I’ll pray that you find a job – a GREAT job!

Technology Woes

12 Jan

  • Recently, I lost my blackberry curve. (issued and paid for by work) I have decided to make the embarrassing confession to my IT department and boss this week.
  • Last week, my iPhone battery died with no hope of resuscitation. The friendly people at the Apple store gladly swapped it for a brand new iPhone in a matter of 10 minutes.
  • Unfortunately, the new iPhone keeps disconnecting my work email and also has a broken button. I see another trip to the Apple store in my future.

Do you think God is trying to tell me something?

RANDOM: Embarrassing iTunes

22 Sep

Totally random…I was just writing a very serious blog post and “I’m Too Sexy” by Right Said Fred came up on my iTunes Shuffle…why do I even own this song!?!?!!  I’m so embarrassed.

I totally lost my will and concentration to finish writing my serious blog post and decided to ask this very important question:

What song is on your iTunes that you are embarrassed of?

Oh my goodness…”Another Night” by The Real McCoy just came on my shuffle. What is happening in my life right now!?!

Technology Came Between Us

15 Sep

Mark and I love, love, love being connected. We love our gadgets and we love our internets. Twitter, blogging, flickr…We pride ourselves on our technorati scores and daily hits.

Yesterday though, we were spending time together and technology came between us. It became obvious that when we are with each other – even on a date – we are constantly checking email, sending twitter updates, or texting our friends.

Mark didn’t realize that it bugs me that he sends text messages to his friends while we are on a date, and I didn’t realize that it bugs Mark when I answer work emails on a date. Of course, it all came out in a slew of angry words and accusations until we both realized that we need to just be content on focusing on eachother when we are together. There’s a time to put the handheld device away and just be unavailable.

The thought of being unavailable to the world scares me, but the thought of being unavailable to Mark scares me even worse…

Funny To Me

8 Aug

My sister is in town and she has the funniest laugh I’ve ever heard…I’m going to try and record it for everyone tonight. I’m really in need of a really good laugh.

Here’s some other things I think are funny

  1. You can love onions, but you’ll never love onions on someone else’s breath
  2. What do you get when you mix a brown chicken and brown cow??…bro-chicka-bro-cow
  3. Mark getting a hair cut
  4. Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
  5. And this picture:

Romance & Web Stories

6 Aug

I’ve written about the important things Mark and I learned about marriage. I need to figure out a way to put my marriage top 10 countdown on my sidebar…

The longer I’m married, the more I value romance. I’ve been married for 5 years and I still can’t stand leaving Mark in the morning to go to work. We keep the romance alive – we go on dates, we talk sweet to each other and we laugh ALOT. He is the most affectionate person in the world. My get goosebumps if I think about him too long.

This is an addition to my top 10 things that I think are most imporant in a marriage. If you need some inspiration in the romance department I HIGHLY suggest reading this story. You’ll be hooked…I promise! I blame Brandy for getting me hooked.

“Free” is not my last name…

23 Jul

I got the following comment yesterday:

Just for the heckofit I googled my name and was so suprised to find your blog. I thought my name was unusual enough that there wouldn’t be someone else with the exact same one…I guess we’re not as unique as we think!

For the record…my last name isn’t “FREE”. I wish it was, but it’s not. My name is Judith Thomas. I’m married to the amazing Mark Thomas. JudiFree is a nickname I’ve had for about 7 years (it’s my favorite nickname…it really beats “BIG BOOTY JUDI” which was my childhood nickname)

Did anyone else think my last name is Free?? What’s your nickname??

100 Blog Posts!

21 Jul

Today is a milestone for me.

Today, I realize that blogging for only a couple of months has already helped me develop character, determination, endurance, faithfullness, vulnerability, dedication and trust.

This is my 100th blog post. I have never written in a journal consistenly, and I really thought that this blog would fade away after a week or two – I have always considered myself a strong starter, but I lack endurance.

Fortunately, I met a community of people who have become so influential and special in my life, that blogging is just like being a part of a really strange and disfunctional long-distance family (I love you all!)

Thanks for reading. Thanks for commenting. You make me feel loved, liked, and some of you make me laugh really hard.

Here’s to the next 100!

A whole lotta love!

11 Jul

OK, it’s Friday…let’s be honest. Los was bragging about his technorati score on Wednesday. We all want higher technorati scores (I’m stuck at 40) - so let’s do it:

  1. if you link to me and I don’t link to you, let me know and I’ll add you.
  2. if you don’t already link to me, let’s link each other today - just send me your link!
  3. In essence: Link me and I’ll link you!

Add Book Reviewer to the Resume

23 May

Today is an exciting day. The promotions department at Zondervan contacted me to read and review some upcoming books on my blog. This is really unexpected. I’m so excited to dig in and let you guys know about some new releases. (I even received a manuscript today…how cool is that!?!?!)

I’m so honored to even be considered to do something like this. I love reading…I love writing…so let’s get ready to rumble!

Here’s my point…

19 May

Okay…we are really reaching a new low…

My point on my blog post about how Christians will find anything to boycott goes to a new level…did you know that we are now boycotting Starbucks?!?!?!

Kelli – if you’re reading, I’m very sorry. You now need to give up that delicious and addicting Starbucks beverage. Read on…

Group finds Starbucks logo too hot to handle

New Starbucks Logo

May 15, 2008

Seems that one person’s smut is another person’s morning latte.

A Christian group based in San Diego found grounds for outrage over the new retro-style logo for Starbucks Coffee.

The Resistance says the new image “has a naked woman on it with her legs spread like a prostitute,” Mark Dice, founder of the group, said in a news release. “Need I say more? It’s extremely poor taste, and the company might as well call themselves Slutbucks.”

The group, which claims more than 3,000 members nationwide and has found a place on the fringe advancing various conspiracy theories, is calling for a national boycott of the coffee-selling giant.
