I’m not a dead link or a mom blog!

30 Mar

My mind and emotions have been swimming in the deep end lately. I can’t believe I haven’t posted in 2 weeks. That’s the longest I’ve ever gone without spilling my guts for the world to read.

I think it’s time for some spillage, but I can’t seem to get my thoughts in order. Tomorrow, I will have a good post. I promise. I’m not a dead link. And I’m not a mom blog (even though I can hardly keep my mind of my precious little baby girl, June). Here’s what happened in the past 2 weeks:

  1. We felt June kick on the outside of my tummy for the first time – magical.
  2. We had house guests from Missouri.
  3. We are welcoming Joshua White into our home tonight. This will be our first “face-to-face” with anyone from the internets.
  4. My face has gotten fatter – I’m fairly sure of this even though my friends swear it’s not true.
  5. French fries make my feet swell up, but I can’t seem to stay away from them.
  6. I started watching the HBO series, Big Love. It’s just wrong.
  7. We had a snow storm and 2 snow days.
  8. God taught me some lessons.
  9. I miss my blog friends.

Resume Writing Tips

12 Mar

The economy sucks…and I can’t do anything about it.

BUT –

I have a knack for writing, editing and formatting resumes for my friends, family, and even former co-workers. If you need some help with your resume, I really want to help you. Here’s some quick tips, but feel free to leave a comment and I’ll email you if you need additional help:

  • Customize your email for the job you are applying for. Each job requirement is different – so should your resume!
  • Keep it to one page if at all possible.
  • Keep it clean and SPELL CHECK!!!!
  • Focus on your skills and strengths – not your daily tasks and duties.
  • You are marketing yourself so be creative and make your experience jump off of the page.
  • Reach out to placement agencies and head hunters. They have trusted relationships with tons of companies. Many companies won’t hire anyone unless it’s through a placement agency or head hunter.
  • Convert your resume to PDF before sending. MS Word formatting doesn’t always “keep”.
  • For examples, templates and more tips, visit Resume Resource.

In addition to helping with your resume, I’ll pray that you find a job – a GREAT job!

A Change of Pace

29 Jan

Since we have had so many layoffs and budget cuts, my job has completely transformed from shopping and planning parties to editing HTML all day. It’s definitely a change of pace. I’m dreaming in code and ready for my old job back (even though that may never happen).

I’m completely stressed out about maternity leave and if they won’t need me again when I actually return. So, I’ll take any job they give me…here’s to HTML!!!!!

<p style=text align: left><b>I still dream of the day when I can be a stay at home mom.</b></p>

<p style=text align: left>I guess it’s better than not having a job at all…RIGHT?!?!</p>

Technology Woes

12 Jan

  • Recently, I lost my blackberry curve. (issued and paid for by work) I have decided to make the embarrassing confession to my IT department and boss this week.
  • Last week, my iPhone battery died with no hope of resuscitation. The friendly people at the Apple store gladly swapped it for a brand new iPhone in a matter of 10 minutes.
  • Unfortunately, the new iPhone keeps disconnecting my work email and also has a broken button. I see another trip to the Apple store in my future.

Do you think God is trying to tell me something?

CONFESSION: I take pictures of myself

10 Dec

Ever since I got the iPhone, I take pictures of myself every day. E-V-E-R-Y-D-A-Y!!!! I told my friends this and they laughed their heads off…especially when they saw the pictures. I’m a dweeb that likes to check her makeup and take funny pictures.

RANDOM: Embarrassing iTunes

22 Sep

Totally random…I was just writing a very serious blog post and “I’m Too Sexy” by Right Said Fred came up on my iTunes Shuffle…why do I even own this song!?!?!!  I’m so embarrassed.

I totally lost my will and concentration to finish writing my serious blog post and decided to ask this very important question:

What song is on your iTunes that you are embarrassed of?

Oh my goodness…”Another Night” by The Real McCoy just came on my shuffle. What is happening in my life right now!?!

“Free” is not my last name…

23 Jul

I got the following comment yesterday:

Just for the heckofit I googled my name and was so suprised to find your blog. I thought my name was unusual enough that there wouldn’t be someone else with the exact same one…I guess we’re not as unique as we think!

For the record…my last name isn’t “FREE”. I wish it was, but it’s not. My name is Judith Thomas. I’m married to the amazing Mark Thomas. JudiFree is a nickname I’ve had for about 7 years (it’s my favorite nickname…it really beats “BIG BOOTY JUDI” which was my childhood nickname)

Did anyone else think my last name is Free?? What’s your nickname??

Write…don’t call

22 Jul

If you want to get a hold of me then email it, blog it, text it, facebook it - but DON’T call me! My phone is always on vibrate. I never answer my phone (just ask Mark).

Is this bad for building relationships?? NO, NO, NO!!! We actually invited a couple to church over facebook last week! They came, we ate lunch, they got excited about ORCC and now they are offically connected – and it all started online. Oh yeah…the best part of this story is that the couple is in their 50s!!!

I keep up with my friends all week long by reading their blogs. I text my husband sweet nothings in the middle of a meeting. We get people coming to church over facebook.

When I do finally see these people face-to-face, I am sure that I pay attention to them and it becomes an authentic connection in person (you can’t leave that part out).

Yes, I love technology!

A whole lotta love!

11 Jul

OK, it’s Friday…let’s be honest. Los was bragging about his technorati score on Wednesday. We all want higher technorati scores (I’m stuck at 40) - so let’s do it:

  1. if you link to me and I don’t link to you, let me know and I’ll add you.
  2. if you don’t already link to me, let’s link each other today - just send me your link!
  3. In essence: Link me and I’ll link you!

Tithing online = Faster first fruits

1 Jul

I love technology. I love that I can blog and tell complete strangers what my life is all about. I love that some churches have been able to incorporate technology to aid the congregation.

I have a dilemma every week when it comes to tithing. I write a check on Wednesday or Sunday and then it takes a week or two for the check to clear – ALOT can happen in a week or two when it comes to my bank account. Meanwhile, I’m spending money, paying bills online, and completely forgetting that my tithe check has not cleared. We haven’t bounced any tithe checks – but we have come CLOSE!

Yes, I realize that I can tithe with cash and this wouldn’t be a problem, but with direct deposit – Mark and I haven’t been to a bank in MONTHS!

So today, I have switched to online tithing. Our church offers it, and it’s incredibly easy and effective. It is truly a first fruit gift (meaning that I give to God before I give to anything else). I don’t inadvertently spend all of the money because a check hasn’t cleared and then my tithe is actually a last thought and makes me grumpy!

Does anyone else experience this?? Does your church offer tithing online?

Bluetooth

22 Apr

I love technology. I really, really do. But I hate when people wear their bluetooth headsets all day long. I really don’t care how important you are…a bluetooth headset is NOT a statement of importance.

In the car = OK
In the airport = OK

In a restaurant = Not OK
In the bathroom = Not OK

I have had so many awkward moments where I think someone is talking to me (or talking to themselves) and then they point to their ear as they keep talking. Not just talking about business, but their Mom’s rash and their dog’s bathroom behavior – come on people! They talk LOUDER with the headset too.

No matter how technologically advanced we get, these bluetooth headset issues will remain the same. We will have flying cars and people will still think you are talking to yourself!

Creative Chaos (week 2)

Creative Chaos

Yeah! Creative chaos is here! I don’t have anything church related this week, but I’m really excited about some wedding invitations I just did for Tiffany’s sister, Brandi. They are totally non-traditional and I wish mine looked like this. If you have a need for custom design of invitations or post cards…let me know! (I put a sample of Tiff’s babyshower and announcment there too!) I do really great at the girly stuff :)

Live from Charlotte

8 Apr

OK! I’m sitting in the airport waiting to board. I’m drugged up on Dramamine and have my iPod touch loaded with The Office…this should be a better trip. I have a better seat (14A) and a big neck pillow.

I stayed up all night checking various blogs – just letting one blog lead me to another. I realized what an awesome tool blogs are for spreading the word of God and connecting people with a vision.

I was so lonely last night – I miss Mark (even a Law and Order mini-marathon on TNT couldn’t comfort me). It helped tremendously to get lost in the internet and read about other people’s worlds. This world is so big…God is moving everywhere.

I watched “A Baby Story” this morning and cried. I hate crying because of TV shows…I really hate it.
