I’m not a dead link or a mom blog!

30 Mar

My mind and emotions have been swimming in the deep end lately. I can’t believe I haven’t posted in 2 weeks. That’s the longest I’ve ever gone without spilling my guts for the world to read.

I think it’s time for some spillage, but I can’t seem to get my thoughts in order. Tomorrow, I will have a good post. I promise. I’m not a dead link. And I’m not a mom blog (even though I can hardly keep my mind of my precious little baby girl, June). Here’s what happened in the past 2 weeks:

  1. We felt June kick on the outside of my tummy for the first time – magical.
  2. We had house guests from Missouri.
  3. We are welcoming Joshua White into our home tonight. This will be our first “face-to-face” with anyone from the internets.
  4. My face has gotten fatter – I’m fairly sure of this even though my friends swear it’s not true.
  5. French fries make my feet swell up, but I can’t seem to stay away from them.
  6. I started watching the HBO series, Big Love. It’s just wrong.
  7. We had a snow storm and 2 snow days.
  8. God taught me some lessons.
  9. I miss my blog friends.

Note To Self:

2 Mar

Since I’m so forgetful lately, I’ve made a list of things I continually try to remind myself of…unfortunately, my reminder usually comes too late:

  1. Going to work in yesterday’s makeup is NEVER a good idea.
  2. You like peas now that you’re pregnant.
  3. You don’t like onions now.
  4. When you have to pee in the middle of the night, it’s not as easy to “roll” out of bed.
  5. You put your keys in your jacket pocket last night instead of in your purse.
  6. Go ahead and get the size Medium in maternity clothes instead of the XXL in regular clothes, you’ll feel better about yourself.
  7. When you feel tired on Wednesday and you call Mark to tell him you’re not coming to church, you will regret it.

A Change of Pace

29 Jan

Since we have had so many layoffs and budget cuts, my job has completely transformed from shopping and planning parties to editing HTML all day. It’s definitely a change of pace. I’m dreaming in code and ready for my old job back (even though that may never happen).

I’m completely stressed out about maternity leave and if they won’t need me again when I actually return. So, I’ll take any job they give me…here’s to HTML!!!!!

Out of Sorts

3 Dec

I’ve been broken and out of sorts the past couple of days. Anxious for nothing, mind wandering, moody, and completely strange. I have a feeling it’s because we are low on cash (after my crazy shopping spree on Black Friday).

I admit it, a part of my emotional state is completely run by money. It’s been so bad that this morning I loaded my car with all of the goodies from Black Friday in which I worked so hard to acquire and I returned almost everything – just so I would feel the comfort of a padded bank account again…YIKES!

What an odd way for God to reveal something in my life that I need to let go of. Money is not my comfort. Shopping is not my comfort. Having nice things is not my comfort. Only You are.

God…I lay it all down again.

Shopping for a Living

15 Oct

I shop for a living. It’s every girls dream. I purchase the promotional gifts (swag as some are inclined to call it) and corporate gifts (these tend to be nicer in quality).

Anyway, my job is alot of fun, but there is one occupational hazard – ACQUIRING JUNK!!!! I have so many companies sending me the latest and greatest stuff that my desk becomes a pile of junk. I clean it weekly and I can’t keep it tidy. Here’s a quick snapshot of what I accumulate in just one week…

Swag

Swag

  • Playing cards
  • 5 water bottles
  • Maglight
  • 2 USB Drives
  • Paperweight
  • Cuff Links
  • Puzzle Game
  • Pen

The law of diminishing value definitely applies here…the first USB drive was really exciting, but the 36th was just a hassle to find a spot or person to give it to. I guess it’s my cross to bare!

I’m OK with Me

29 Sep

I just realized that I am really OK with me.

I never thought I’d say that. I’m a bit overweight. I wish my hair (and my legs) were longer. But all in all, I’m OK. I love my marriage and my husband makes me feel like the most beautiful girl in the universe (I’m sure that has something to do with it.)

For years, I have tormented myself over 10 lbs. I have secretly changed clothes 10 times every day before picking something that “works”. I have spent countless hours doing my hair and makeup. I have spent thousands of dollars on new clothes. I have been a work in progress with no possible end in sight. I pour over magazines and compare who I am to the paper dolls staring back at me.

Why am I saying this? Because today I am OK with me. I’m sure I’ll look back on this blog post and laugh out loud because there will (no doubt) be days where I’m not OK. I just need to put it on record that today I am OK. Today I feel beautiful. Today I hope I feel this way forever.

I’m Girly…so what!

18 Sep

I have been told that my blog is GIRLY. I LOVE THAT!!!

So I share with you my secret passion: I love to do hair and make up!

Specifically – hair and make up for weddings! It can be very stressful, as a wedding is the ultimate dress up day for a woman, but it is so fabulously fun when everything turns out right. Here is my beatiful friend, Deanna, on her wedding day with her bridesmaids. I did Deanna’s makeup and her bridesmaid’s hair - aren’t they lovely?

Ladies, if you need your hair or makeup done for a special occasion (prom, homecoming, blind date, wedding). Just give me a shout – it’s my favorite thing to do!  I am doing hair for a bridal party on Saturday morning and I’m so STINKIN EXCITED!

SLEEPOVER!!!!

11 Sep

I announced last night that we will be having an
ALL GIRLS CATALYST SLEEPOVER
at my house tomorrow night right after the Re:zound concert (pray for me!):

Leading you on…

10 Sep

I am an encourager. I am an exhorter. I am a cheerleader. I think that this is my greatest gift in life. Sometimes, though, I think that enouraging can cross a line and becomes leading people on.

Example: I had a meeting with a small town, Nebraska-based promotional company today. They had mediocre products and are not a good fit for my company. However, I wanted to be positive and encouraging, so I told him that they had really great stuff and that I appreciated the visit. I know the guy left thinking that he has a good shot at landing a huge account – but the reality is that there’s no way we will be doing business with them. I totally led him on for the sake of wanting to encourage him. Now, I know that he will be calling me every week to follow up.

I have to let my no be no and my yes be yes. No leading on. No grey area. Only encourage what is worth encouraging. This is a lesson I’m learning today. I can only imagine how frustrating it can be to any sales person. Wouldn’t you just want to know that you aren’t getting the business and what you can change to get the business?

Have you ever unintentionally led someone on because you were just encouraging them?

Patent Leather Lollipop

30 Jul

Someone blessed me beyond belief yesterday by giving me an amazing purse. This purse came with it’s own dust/storage bag. I’ve never bought anything with it’s own dust bag! AMAZING! (did I mention that I LOVE LOVE LOVE purses?)

Just when I thought my week couldn’t get worse. Just when I thought I was hung out to dry. Just when I thought about giving up…GOD TOTALLY REELED ME BACK IN…with a purse!

I’m not glorifying material things, but it was like I was a fussy little child and God was giving me a lollipop to pacify me because He loves me. Only…this lollipop is patent leather with suede lining – OH YEAH BABY!

My New Purse

My New Purse

Hey, it’s OK…

29 Jul
  • to want to each lunch at 10:30 am (that’s why the menu at BK switches over then…)
  • to not give money to every school fundraiser that people at work bring for their kids
  • to let the laundry sit in the dryer for a day even if it means all of my clothes will be wrinkled
  • to not like every worship song – yes, it’s all for God, but we all have our favorites and least favorites
  • to buy something stupid just because it’s by the cash register
  • to not like every song my husband likes- sorry babe
  • to want to watch The Dark Knight again even though I already saw it twice
  • to be nervous about my parents moving to town even though I know it will be great, i’m still nervous
  • to get used to drinking diet coke
  • to fight for what I want
  • to speak up
  • to be honest

Now you…

Tithing online = Faster first fruits

1 Jul

I love technology. I love that I can blog and tell complete strangers what my life is all about. I love that some churches have been able to incorporate technology to aid the congregation.

I have a dilemma every week when it comes to tithing. I write a check on Wednesday or Sunday and then it takes a week or two for the check to clear – ALOT can happen in a week or two when it comes to my bank account. Meanwhile, I’m spending money, paying bills online, and completely forgetting that my tithe check has not cleared. We haven’t bounced any tithe checks – but we have come CLOSE!

Yes, I realize that I can tithe with cash and this wouldn’t be a problem, but with direct deposit – Mark and I haven’t been to a bank in MONTHS!

So today, I have switched to online tithing. Our church offers it, and it’s incredibly easy and effective. It is truly a first fruit gift (meaning that I give to God before I give to anything else). I don’t inadvertently spend all of the money because a check hasn’t cleared and then my tithe is actually a last thought and makes me grumpy!

Does anyone else experience this?? Does your church offer tithing online?

Good-Bye Vegas, Hello Denver

25 Jun

Mark and I had a lovely time in Vegas celebrating our 5-year anniversary.

Here are some thoughts from Vegas:

  1. Taxi drivers can save your life and tell you everything you need to know about Vegas (a whole other blog post)
  2. Vegas is only fun if you have alot of money to spend.
  3. It’s hotter than Hades, but you don’t burn – WEIRD!
  4. There are CHILDREN EVERYWHERE in Vegas – WHY!?!?!?
  5. One Vegas block = One mile
  6. Do not walk on the sidewalk in Vegas in June at 3 pm in the afternoon.
  7. Don’t expect anything.
  8. You have to look for trouble to find it.
  9. Don’t eat at the buffet at the Wynn.
  10. Always buy the $1 bottled water from the lady selling it from a cooler on the street – that’s the cheapest item you will buy in Vegas and it can save your life.

Are you going on vacation this summer!?!?!

Ask and You Shall Receive

19 Jun

This morning, after reading in 1 John 1:8 that says,

“if we claim to be without sin, we are deceived and the truth is not in us”

I asked God “What sin is possibly in my life right now???? What am I not seeing that is deceiving me???

Well, not even 30 minutes later he revealed to me that my finances are not in such great shape and I am not financially devoted and stable as God would like me to be. My discipline SUCKS when it comes to finances.

Of course, He reveals this right before my big trip to VEGAS where I plan on blowing every last dime in my bank account on buffets, clothes, and Cirque de Soleil shows. WHY, GOD, WHY?!????!? Why do you have to tell me this now….oh yeah, because I asked….

ASK AND YOU SHALL RECEIVE! The word of God is true and just. If you ask God with a heart to listen, he will tell you the truth – be ready for it!

What are you asking God to tell you? Is your heart ready for the answer???
