Reasonable Fear

Is there such a thing as reasonable fear with the Lord?
I hear statements like, “Every good parent worries for their child.” and I can’t help but wonder if it’s true. Fear is the opposite of faith…so are we just comforting ourselves and making excuses for our fear?
I want to live FREE of fear and the promises in the Word tell me I can. Right???!?!?!?!?!

We could all use a “healthy fear” of God. He is pretty powerful, after all. Maybe fear isn’t the right word, but God is Almighty and someone to behold and respect.
Nathan, I agree, but that’s not the type of fear I was talking about. I’m talking about worry, fretting, scared type of fear.
we fear tons of things. we just do. we’re human. its a part of our make-up. some can over come it more easily than others.
id like to downgrade my fears to concern.
but i agree….perfect love cast out fear. so why do we fear at all? faith. i think it all comes down to faith.
When it comes to your kids, at some point you have to realize that the vast majority of things are not in your control. When you think about it, it is the same way with your own life. In most cases, you can’t control whether or not your company will go under and you will lose your job OR if you will come down with some debilitating illness OR if some horrible crime is committed against you.
Bad things happen to everyone. And at some point everyone will include your own children. If you focus on that, you aren’t free (and I know you love freedom, Judifree) to live the life God wants you to live. So when Satan tosses those fears for your little girl in your face, learn how to lay every one of them down at the feet of God. That way both Judi and June can live in the freedom in which He set you free to live. (Galatians 5)
I think as long as there is love there will be fear. Anyone who doesn’t fear for their kids safety and decisions, in my opinion aren’t good parents. What I have always had a hard time with is how to control my fear, to not interfere with their growth and freedom of my kids. I’m not good with the bible, but because of the Lords love for us, I would guess the Lord fears for our decision that he allows to make.
Without fear there could only be ignorance, or innocence as I wrote here. With fear there can be the sufficiency of God.
Wow great comments here!
As long as your decisions aren’t based in fear but in God’s power to overcome all things I think you’re fine.
As George Michael said, and Tam reiterated, “You gotta have faith”
Time to change the question; Is there such a thing as an un-reasonable fear with the Lord? What is so big, so fearful that your Lord, the Lord, cannot walk you thru?
