It’s FRIDAY & the Sex and the City movie comes out today!!! I already have my ticket and can hardly sit still in my seat. Tiffany even made me an awesome Carrie-like flower to wear to the premier! I’m going in style baby.
Unfortunately, this little HBO series from which I derive so much entertainment is somewhat controversial in church. Many call it “Smut in the City” and so I’m left with this dilemma…to watch or not to watch??
The characters are highly entertaining, the script is witty, the storyline is captivating, and the nudity is more comical than anything else. Maybe I am just trying to justify my little guilty pleasure – maybe you’re judging me right now! Who knows, but let’s just say, I’m going to see it and I’m sure I’m going to love it.

I admire your boldness…haha.
HA!….or my stupidity
i’ll out myself as your partner in crime tonight. i’m going to see SATC tonight with you and i’m going to love it as well!
@Teresa…I wasn’t going to out you – I claim no responsibility for any judgement on you!
i accept all responsibility and totally thank you for respecting my privacy. but if you can be so bold as to admit your guilty pleasure… so can i!
Take your preacher’s wife with you.
So tell me, was it all that it was cracked up to be? I must say I don’t share the same passion for SATC as you do. In fact, I have no inkling of amicable feelings towards that show!! But we can still be friends, right?!
Good for you!!!
no shame in it girl!
OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG!
TAM – I have mentioned that you are AWESOME!?!?
I am also a church leader – my husband and I lead a young adult professionals group at our hometown in Virginia. I had always heard about SATC from a FORBIDDEN standpoint, but then I caught a few episodes a couple of years ago and started getting hooked! To tell you the truth, the word sex in the title is probably why it gets so much ridicule. I personally don’t find the content offensive in the least, but it is pretty shallow. I agree with you…tough call to make. I don’t have time for it anymore but I would suggest praying about it and keeping mum around anyone who might be misled by your appreciation of the show.
How was it? I like horror movies
Don’t judge me, but I wanna see this:
OK. Here is my conviction Judi. I love you. And I am not trying to judge. But you asked. hehe. My feelings are…and I did watch half a season with a friend, is that women are addicted to shows like this the same way guys are addcited to porn. Explanation: our kind of porn is emtional. Im sure its different entertainment for you, becuase you are married, and everyone is different, but just like I wouldnt reccomend a movie with nudity un it to any guy, I wouldn’t suggest that…in my experience, to single, possibly married Christian women. Our hearts unconciously attach to things the same way mens eyes do. And my question is what does it do to your heart, your relationship with God. 1 Peter 2:11, 12. I love you. So, buy the movie if it your hearts desire. That is just how I feel at this point in my life.
@Bridget – I’m so freaking proud of you. I love you so much and your post shows a beautiful maturity about you.
I do feel it may be different for married folks. Your comment about how our porn is emotional is definitely hitting me hard though. Maybe I have some praying to do!
Love you so much! You can always show your heart on my blog.
Bridget has given me something to think about.
I understand Bridget’s argument in regards to Sex and The City. However, I think one of the reasons why there is a still an audience for this is because: a) The Church still is not having transparent discussion about Biblical sexuality. One can uphold a standard for purity if you understand that it has more to do with character and your heart first, than it does to do with gender. Saying no sex outside of marriage is not enough—you need to be able to know that your sexuality is most celebrated, cherished, and nurtured in marriage(that goes for men too!) b) there is still a double standard when it comes to men, women, and sexual desires.
