God Bless the Simple

2 May

Taking the lead from Los, I want to brag on my spouse a little bit today. Mark is an amazing musician and writer. He has the most pure heart of anyone I know – truly humble and loving.

Mark and I had the chance to have our lives changed by Robbie, a young boy with Cerebral Palsy (thanks Pete for reminding me of this). Robbie would come with his parents to all of Mark’s rock shows and he knew every word to every song. He was always smiling and hugging everyone. Robbie has the most simple joy, faith, love, and hope even though he had every reason to doubt, hate, and be depressed.

Mark wrote a song about Robbie. I believe what this song says, and I want to share it with you:

God Bless the Simple

Who has changed you?

I remember sitting on the couch at you guy’s old apartment when Mark showed us this song. He prefaced it to us and told us what it was about. It was a rough track that he had done with John on some afternoon. I sat there with tears welling up in my eyes. Mark’s talent is really remarkable, and he is truly blessed to have you in his life. That is what’s pretty insane about you two, is that you are both so talented at things that compliment each other. I hope some day I can hone in on my craft that well. (I suppose I need to figure out what my craft is first!)
